چکیده

CO2 separation using reactive solvents is considered to be a technically viable option for capturing of CO2 from flue gas streams. However, the cost of CO2 capture using conventional solvents such as aqueous solutions of monoethanolamine (MEA) is prohibitively high. Nearly half of the total cost is due to operational costs, of which about 70 to 80% can be contributed to the cost of regeneration of the solvent. In addition, the conventional solvents are rather corrosive and can be degraded by many of the contaminants present in the flue gas streams. Therefore, there is considerable incentive to develop solvents that require lower energy for regeneration and also induce less operational difficulties. This paper will provide a critical review of the chemical solvent based processes for the separation of CO2 from combustion gas streams and describe the main parameters affecting the process performance.

Pebax-Modified Cellulose Acetate Membrane for CO2/N2 Separation

Carbon dioxide (CO2) release from the exhaust gas streams of power plants that burn fossil fuels contributes the most emission of this gas, which includes more than half of the greenhouse effects. Thus, the separation of CO2 from exhaust gases is one of the main environmental concerns. Membrane technology, due to many advantages, has attracted many research attentions among the various gas sepa...

Experimental Studies of CO2 Capturing from the Flue Gases

CO2 emissions from combustion flue gases have turned into a major factor in global warming. Post-combustion carbon capture (PCC) from industrial utility flue gases by reactive absorption can substantially reduce the emissions of the greenhouse gas CO2. To test a new solvent (AIT600) for this purpose, a small pilot plant was used. This paper presents the results of studies ...

Membrane-Cryogenic Post-Combustion Carbon Capture of Flue Gases from NGCC

Membrane gas separation for carbon capture has traditionally been focused on high pressure applications, such as pre-combustion capture and natural gas sweetening. Recently a membrane-cryogenic combined process has been shown to be cost competitive for post-combustion capture from coal fired power stations. Here, the membrane-cryogenic combined process is investigated for application to post-co...

CO2 CAPTURE OPTIONS FOR AN EXISTING COAL FIRED POWER PLANT: O2/CO2 RECYCLE COMBUSTION vs. AMINE SCRUBBING

The existing fleet of modern pulverized coal fired power plants represents an opportunity to achieve significant greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the coming years providing efficient and economical CO2 capture technologies are available for retrofit. One option is to separate CO2 from the products of combustion using conventional approaches such as amine scrubbing. An emerging alternate, commo...
